This week at Miller, state testing has begun for third, fourth, and fifth graders!  When a student starts a test, they have 20 calendar days to complete the test, so attendance is critical for us to be able to keep up with the testing schedule we have created.  Please please ensure your third, fourth, and fifth graders are well-rested, well-fed, and here at school every school day for the next two months!  Students who have missed too much school and are up against a tests’ expiration date may need to come in over the weekend to complete testing.  Thanks so much for your partnership with this as we help our students SHINE!

Also coming soon at Miller is the monthly awards assembly.  This month, we will be awarding students with excellent optimism.  You can see our Facebook or Twitter pages for ideas and memes on how to teach your kids to be optimistic.

Finally, I want to share some great news about attendance--our attendance rate is up 0.3% from this time last year!  About 7% of our  students are working really hard on improving their attendance and the efforts have helped with this improvement.  Also there are about 30 students in our school with perfect attendance from the beginning of the school year and their efforts are keeping our numbers high, too!  If you know your child’s attendance isn’t what it should be, try setting a small, attainable goal with them to slowly improve habits and attendance!
